1. Yorkies are rat killers.

Business owners in Scotland originally bred the dogs to get rid of rats in their places of business.

2. A Yorkie was the first therapy dog.

Smokey was a Yorkshire Terrier that helped soldiers out during World War 2, and toured hospitals where she would cheer up wounded soldiers. Smokey ended up doing a tour in Hollywood, appearing in films and variety shows.

3. A Yorkie was the smallest dog EVER.

Sylvia was a Yorkshire Terrier that weighed only four ounces and was just 2.5 inches tall and 3.5 inches long when she was full grown! Sadly, Sylvia died just after her second birthday — but she lived a great life for such a small doggo.

4. Richard Nixon had a Yorkie in the White House.

Pasha was one of three dogs in the Nixon White House.

5. Yorkies can sneeze backwards!

That's right! Yorkies are prone to something called a "pharyngeal gag reflex," which means they can actually sneeze backwards. This can scare some dog owners, but is actually completely harmless!
